What makes you different from others in this field?

With a masters in clinical mental health and years of helping others organize their spaces, I ask questions which help clients let go of attachments to objects which have outlived their usefulness. I help clients create systems tailored to their needs and challenge how they view possessions. Together, we process the need to release clutter and move forward in the clean, organized, and safe environment they and their families deserve.

What are your service areas?

I work within a 20 mile radius of Mountain Brook, Alabama. Homes outside that range are subject to additional charges.

What should I know about pricing?

My rate is $60 per hour with a four hour minimum within 20 miles of Mountain Brook, Alabama. Additional charges apply to areas outside that range.

I offer a free consultation before beginning the job to get a better sense of your goals and whether we are a good fit for working together. I accept cash and various payment apps.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

I meet with clients to discuss their needs and goals as well as assessing the areas that require organization.

Once work begins, I work alongside clients to determine what posessions they no longer need or want in their home. I take one car load of discarded items to the donation center of the client's choosing for each day I am working in their space.

Once excess possessions are removed, many clients find they have more space than they believed they did as we work together to find solutions for organizing their remaining possessions in ways that work for their needs and capabilities.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

In 2009 or so, I found myself out of work and looking around to figure out what skills I could improve. I realized many of my jobs had involved sorting out messes and I excelled at tasks others had difficulty doing. When I began graduate school, my focus shifted away from organization and onto my studies. I have found my time as a counseling student has cultivated a better understanding of disorganization and how to help my clients improve their environments.

What types of customers have you worked with?

As some examples, I have worked with clients suffering from depression, anxiety, ADHD, substance misuse recovery, physical limitations, and other circumstances which affect their ability to tackle disorganization. I have worked with clients to clear out spaces after a loved one has passed, holding space for the complicated emotions associated with grief and helping them to decide what to let go of and what to hold dear. It is my honor to be invited into the lives of people who are struggling and help them move forward.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

I recently spent several days with a client whose parents had recently passed as we cleared out decades worth of possessions from the family's vacation home so it could be readied for sale. The job would have been overwhelming for the client on her own, but we worked side-by-side as we mourned her loss and celebrated the wonderful lives of her lost loved ones.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire an organization specialist?

Overall, you want someone who does not make you feel you are being judged harshly for the shape your space has gotten into over the years. Clients often become overwhelmed with guilt about how things have gotten and are reluctant to have anyone see their spaces at all. Choosing someone who is empathetic and kind will encourage you to complete the difficult work once you begin.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

  • What are some contributing factors to your current need for help?
  • How might your life be different if you were more organized?
  • Are you ready to let go of old patterns of thought and behavior and take back your space?
  • Are you willing to work side-by-side with someone to answer the hard questions and be directly involved in the process?
